Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve

Kalinzu Central Forest reserve is a 147 square Km forest located in Bushenyi district in western Uganda at the edge of the savannah Queen Elizabeth national park and the Maramagambo forest.

Kalinzu forest lies at an altitude of 1,400m above sea level at the edge of the Great rift valley escarpment. The forest can be accessed on a safari to Queen Elizabeth national park or enroute to Mbarara, Kabale or to Bwindi impenetrable forest.

What to see in Kalinzu forest

The forest has 414 tree species, 378 bird species , six (6) species of primates inclusive of the Vervet monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Baboons and chimpanzees, 262 Butterfly species, 97 moths species, flowers and several reptiles.

Accommodation in Kalinzu includes basic camping in Kalinzu and Kalinzu Eco lodge. Visitors are required to carry their own tents as it is a self camping.

Modest accommodation can be secured in the neighboring Ishaka town or Ndekye town.

Better tourist accommodation near Kalinzu forest is available in Kyambura  4o Km away from the forest.
