5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali – Virunga National Park

Your 5 days congo gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hiking safari starts on arrival at Kigali International Airport.

You will be met by a Bujuku Eco Tours driver guide who will brief you and transfer you to the Lodge. Pass through the beautiful landscape sceneries endowed with unique natural features, rolling hills, smiling local people of Rwanda. Upon arrival, you will check in at the hotel.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Bukima the headquarters of Virunga National park for briefing with other trekkers by the ranger guide. You will also be assigned a particular gorilla group to trek.

After the briefing, you will start the trek led by the ranger guide in search for the Mountain gorillas. After sometime you will encounter the magnificent creatures their natural environment is a wonderful experience.

You will strictly be allowed to spend 1 hour with the gorillas maintaining 7m distance away from them. You will be free to take photos. “Flashlight is prohibited”, observe the gorillas and ask from the ranger guides questions. After a successful trek, you can then return back to your lodge for the late meal and relaxation.

Day 3: Hiking Mount Nyiragongo Volcano

Wake early for breakfast, the driver guide will drive you from the lodge to Nyiragongo Volcano Base.

Mount Nyiragongo is an active strata volcano with an elevation of 3,470 m in the Virunga Mountains associated with the Albertine Rift.

It has the world’s largest lava lake.

On arrival you will meet other hikers and the ranger guide will brief you about the basics of hiking Nyiragongo to the Nyiragongo volcano. This hike takes a person about 4-6 hours to reach the peak.

While hiking you will enjoy amazing sights and beautiful views of rare birds and small mammals.

On reaching the top you will enjoy the view of the lakes of boiling lava and a chance to relax at its peak. It is quite a tiring journey because of the sunshine and high elevation, but worth taking.

You will have dinner and overnight stay at the tented camps located on the edge of the crater.

Day 4: Descend down the Nyiragongo Volcano and transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park.

After breakfast, it will be time to descend down to the base to Kibat Patrol station from the peak of Mount Nyiragongo.

You will have lunch at the bottom of the dome and transfer to Kahuzi Biega National park a home to the Eastern lowland gorillas.

Day 5: Lowland Gorilla Trekking, Transfer to Kigali, Departure

You will have an early breakfast and head to the briefing point at the park headquarters. Here the ranger guide will take you through the rules and regulations for lowland gorilla trekking.

After you will trek into the forest in search for the gorillas until you encounter them. You will be allowed to spend strictly one hour with these gentle giant creatures.

After the trek, the Bujuku Eco Tours driver guide will transfer you back to the lodge for lunch and depart for Kigali through the Cyangugu border for departure at Kigali International Airport or to a hotel for an optional overnight stay.
