9 days Mawenzi Peak Summit and Uhuru Peak Summit on Mount Kilimanjaro
Mawenzi Peak is one of the three cones that makes Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the second-highest peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, rising to 5,149 meters. Located on the eastern side of the mountain, Mawenzi is a rugged, jagged volcanic cone formed by earliest eruptions. Despite the smoother Kibo cone commonly known as Uhuru Peak, Mawenzi features steep cliffs, sharp ridges, and pinnacles, making it a technical and more challenging climb that requires ropes and specialised gears. It is rarely summited and is well-matched for experienced climbers seeking for a remote and a more adventure experience.

Day 3: From Mandara Hut(2700m) to Horombo Hut (3700m)
The day begins with an early breakfast. Shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will reach the timberline and then enter the heath and moor zone. After Approximately 4 – 6 hours, the Horombo Hut will come into sight, standing at an altitude of 3700m. From the hut, you will have fantastic views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plains of the Maasai plains
Day 4: Trek from horombo hut (3700m) to mawenzi hut (4300m)
Today, our trail from Horombo Hut to Mawenzi Hut is a less-travelled, scenic route that turns off the main Marangu Route and heads east toward the Mawenzi volcanic cone. It crosses a high-altitude plateau known as “The Saddle”, a barren stretch of land lying between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
This stage is key for adjustment and sets the stage for the technical Mawenzi Peak climb.

Day 5: Technical climb to Mawenzi peak (5149m) and return to Mawenzi hut
We begin the day with an early high-altitude climb at around 4 o’clock in the morning, gearing up for a roped technical climb. The climb will be led by certified technical climbing guides from tanzania, alongside experienced high-altitude guides from bujuku eco tours & travel, including our professional chef Guide.
This is a challenging, high-altitude climb over jagged volcanic ridges and steep faces, requiring: – a Helmet, Harness, Ropes, Personal carabiners which are highly recommended), Crampons, technical boots and gloves.
Note; Clients must rent or bring their own technical climbing equipment’s.
The summit of Mawenzi offers remarkable picturesque views of the Saddle below the towering Kibo cone to the west, and the Tanzanian and Kenyan plains beyond. After time for summit photos and celebration, you begin the descent back to Mawenzi Hut in the afternoon.
This is a highly rewarding day. The Summit success depends on route conditions, personal fitness and weather condition; safety is always out top tier priority.
Day 6: From Mawenzi Hut (4300m) ascend to Kibo Hut (4700m
Today, we leave the dramatic cliffs of Mawenzi and head west across the immense, open expanse known as ‘The Saddle’, a barren, high-altitude desert that lies between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The trail is gradual but exposed, with minimal vegetation, strong sun, and potentially cold winds. While the distance is not very long, the altitude makes this section physically demanding, so we advice to maintain a steady, slow pace to help with adaptation, even though the Mawenzi summit has given us good chance to attempt this easily.
This afternoon is reserved for rest, hydration, and a summit briefing with your guides.
