Day 1: Arrival At Bujumbura International Airport
Upon arrival, you will meet with our company representative at the airport for a meet and greet. Our representative will transfer you to your prior booked hotel to rest and a briefing for your birding tour.
Depending on the time you arrive in Bujumbura; – you can opt for an evening walk along the shores of Lake Tanganyika to view some of the lake shore birds which include; Gulls, terns, herons, pelicans, and occasionally the beautiful African Skimmer. And enjoy and evening on the sandy shores of the lake.
You can as well opt to go Kibira national park for a short birding excursion. The park is situated 48km northwest of Bujumbura city which is about an hour’s drive. This is the country’s chief birding destination for the Albertine Rift endemics, which include the Rwenzori Turaco, Archer’s Robin-chat, Stripe-breasted Tit, African Emerald Cuckoo, and sunbirds.

Day 2: Birding In Rusizi National Park
On this day you will wake up as early as possible to prepare for a birding day ahead in Rusizi national park. Rusizi national park is Burundi’s most visited conservation area, hosting over 200 resident and migratory bird species. Located just 15 km northwest of Bujumbura, this vibrant wetland ecosystem sits where the Rusizi River delta empties into Lake Tanganyika.
You can spot the African Skimmer, Malachite Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Goliath Heron, Glossy Ibis, White-faced Whistling Duck, and the elusive Papyrus Gonolek. With White-winged Tiers and Lesser Flamingos being some of the migratory birds. Other birds to spot include; Red-chested Sunbird, Angola Weaver, Sharpe’s Pied Babbler, and Baglafecht Weaver. You will cruise along the calm waters of the Rusizi River delta to view some of the waterbirds.
